The Pantone Color Of The Year

Pantone's Color of the Year 2013

We’re seeing green over at RBS. Emerald green that is! The 2013 Pantone Color of the Year is Emerald. The color company usually picks its color of the year based on the current zeitgeist. The color of the year in 2009 was the bright yellow Mimosa, chosen in the hope that it would energize and encourage the country in light of the 2009 recession. So, does emerald green mean the economy is on the rebound? The company describes the color as “Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.”

So does this choice actually mean anything? Well, maunfacturers and store buyers do put some stock in the selection as the designation brings a lot of media attention. Another Pantone-Sephora beauty collection is planned to be released in March(Preview it here). Spring fashion collections by Tracy Reese, Nanette Lepore, and Marimekko will use Emerald as part of their palettes.

How do you wear it? All the time! If you’re going casual, pair your greens with an attention-grabbing green bag. During the evening, grab a lux emerald frock and pair it with some gold jewelry. If you’ve got green eyes(like Harry Potter), emerald eye liner will make those peepers pop(hopefully not like Harry Potter)! You can also make a statement in a fitted emerald coat! Just don’t wear green head to toe or you’ll look like you got lost on the way to a St. Patrick’s day party!
