Do you want to Design the Olympic Golf Course?

If you have always considered yourself a potential golf course architect, you may still have a chance to design the course for the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Deadline for bids has been extended because none of the previously submitted bids have included the proper legal and financial documentation necessary.

The orgranizers are currently contacting the previous candidates to request new documentation, but also allowing other candidates to submit their bids, saying that it is unlikely that the winner will be announced by Dec. 23rd as originally planned.

Even though the number of candidates and names have not been disclosed at this time, some of the biggest names had previously expressed interest (including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, Gary Player, Robert Trent Jones Jr, and Nick Faldo).

Unfortunately if you do wish to place a bid, you must meet a few special requirements, including prior course design experience, and if you are an international company, you need to have an office legally established in Rio (I am not sure what that means for those of you who you aren’t an international company). The Rio Commimittee has also expressed that the course will have to leave a legacy to the city and become a part of their youths sports programs, and be capable of hosting test events and competitions after the games.

If the prestige of designing the first Olympic course since 1904 isnt enough to get your bid in, you will also be pad $300,000 for the design!

So Rock Heads this might be your chance! If you have any design experience at all! Get your bids in!
