FOLLOWUP: Golf Recommended For 2016 Olympics

Despite strong lobbying from this Caveman, the International Olympic Committee annouced today it will take the next step towards returning golf (along with rugby sevens) to the Olympic Games.

“In the end, the decision came down to which two would add the most value,” IOC President Jacques Rogge told reporters. “Golf and rugby scored high on all 33 criteria,” Rogge said, adding this was still a proposal and it needed to be validated.

Wondering what format they’ll use?

Golf proposes a 72-hole stroke-play competition for men and women, with 60 players in each field. The world’s top 15 players would qualify automatically, and all major professional tours would alter tournament schedules to avoid a clash with the Olympics.

Final approval will be decided in October.
