Greenbrier Classic History
The Greenbrier Classic is an event play on The Old White TPC at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The event made its debut in 2010 replacing the Buick Open. This event was played in late July for 2010 and 2011. Now the event was moved to early July for the 2012 and future events. Due to the severe flooding in the region, the 2016 Greenbrier Classic was canceled. Starting in 2018 the event was renamed A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier. This is in honor of the U.S. militaries involvement at The Greenbrier. The property was used as a military hospital during WWII and Project Greek Island.

Old White TPC at The Greenbrier History
The Old White TPC was the first 18 hole course at The Greenbrier. Charles Blair Macdonald designed the course and it was opened for play in 1914. The course was named after the Old White Hotel, which was located on the grounds from 1858 to 1922. Macdonald based his design on some of the famous holes in Europe at the time. The 8th hold is styled after the “Redan” at North Berwick, the 13th hole is modeled after the “Alps” at Prestwick and the 15th is based on “Eden” at St. Andrews. Macdonald’s assistant, Seth Raynor, aided in the construction of the property and oversaw renovations in the 1920’s. During 2016, the area experienced devastating flooding. The Old White TPC was reopened in July 2017, it was fully restored by designer Keith Foster.
