Where did you play your first round in 2011? Plus Discount Tee Times!

Scratch Swings!I am sitting here in front of my monitor staring outside of the window of the cave, and looking at what a beautiful day it is outside. Its stunningly bright, 85 with a slight breeze here in Virginia right now. I am wishing I was outside playing a round of golf, but work has to be done to get great golfin’ deals ready for my Rock Heads!

So in the mean time I am going to dream about my first round this year. The caveman played at the local Sleepy Hole Golf Course in Suffolk, Va.

The course, originally designed by Russell Breeding in 1972, has hosted 8 LPGA tour events, and was also renovated in 2003 under the direction of Tom Clark. It’s a par 72, 18 hole, 7,000 yard course, which is fantastic, and is home to the best finishing hole in Virginia!

I carded an 86, definitely not good enough to go pro, but I was pleased with myself!

Have you played this year? Where did you play and how was it?

Bonus: In an effort to make golf more affordable for everyone, this caveman has partnered up with a bunch of courses all around the nation to bring you Discount Tee Times. Not every course is available, but it’s a work in progress!

First round this year was at Lansbrook in Palm Harbor, FL on March. After 4 months off, I headed down to pitch in at my Dad’s house and get a few early rounds in. Over those 4 months I used the new putting mat I received for Christmas to work on my stroke. A small bucket on Tuesday pm to work on a few tweaks I was considering, then I was ready to go Wed. AM. Carded an 83 while using those little tweaks. They cost me about 4-5 strokes but I stuck with them. Friday for the second round clocked in with a 77 when those tweaks started paying off. No 3 putts, either, since those tweaks got me a bit closer on approaches. It drives my friends nuts that I can come out cold after 4-5 months off and basically pick up right where I left off. They forget that I’ve been playing since I was 12 and muscle memory will always kick in. While they seemingly have to start from scratch again since they started playing relatively later on in life. I usually play well the first few rounds since I’m not expecting anything, then the scores go up for a couple when I think “I’ve got it”. they usually finish the year back down around 4-5 over once I get back into the swing of things.

My first round this year was at Cedarbrook golf course in Belle Vernon, Pa. It is the same course that Michelle Wie played on to qualify for a men’s tournament. I’m going back again today.
