What Happens When You Cross Golf And Soccer?

From time to time this caveman likes to report on some of the neat adaptations of the golfin’ game. But this one has blown my mind. It never once entered my thought process to combine golf with soccer, but that’s exactly what Footgolf does.

I only learned about footgolf on Wednesday when this photo of Bonnie Dundee Golf Course in Illinois went viral on Reddit. As one redditor put it, “I enjoy golf for spending a day outside, swinging a club at a ball trying to aim it towards a hole while drinking, doing so with a bigger ball and drinking just sounds like a blast.”

So how does this hybrid work? According to the American Footgolf League’s website, it’s like this:

It’s played on a golf course, but instead of using golf balls and clubs, players kick soccer balls into the extra large holes to accommodate them. Don’t worry, the new holes don’t damage course, the 21-inch cups are placed on the rough, yards away from the green. Footgolf rules are basically the same as regular golf (get the ball in the hole with the fewest kicks possible) and a strict golf dress code is enforced (no cleats allowed).

The American Footgolf League’s website lists 60 official courses in the U.S. that are either open or due to open by the end of 2014. The League touts it as a way to drive more traffic to golf courses and their pro shops and restaurants.

So Rock Heads, what do you think? Would you like to play some footgolf? Let me know in the comments and enjoy this footgolf video!
