Stop Snacking Today!
If you’re like this here Caveman, when you’re sittin’ at home, it’s real easy to have one hand on the remote and one in the bag of chips. But these mindless calories can add up real fast. Don’t believe me? Track your calories for the next three or four day.s And I mean EVERY calorie. Every piece of candy from your co-workers desk; every cookie for dessert. You’ll be amazed how those calories can sneak themselves in there. So let’s stop snackin’ Rock Heads! All it’s doin’ is weighin’ us down. Here are the Caveman’s top tips to stop snacking!
- Don’t Skip Meals
Create set meals and snack times for yourself throughout the day and stick to them. This will help you to stick to a nutritious eating schedule, and will also fight the urge to nibble on unhealthy foods by keeping you full on healthier options.
- Eat Small Meals Throughout The Day
This way you won’t get hungry and reach for some unhealthy.
- Drink Lots Of Water
Most people confuse thirst with hunger and will start to snack when their bodies are just trying to tell them they’re thirsty. Before you reach for that snack, have a glass of water first. Then give yourself five minutes and see if you are still hungry.
- Stay Busy
Most people tend to eat when they are bored. Find a task to do around the house, or better yet, take up a new hobby. Activities that keep your hands busy, like knitting, will help to keep your mind off of food so that you aren’t eating out of boredom. The busier you are, the less time you’ll have to think about food.
- Use TV Time More Wisely.
It can be tempting to tune in to the tube and sink into the couch. If you’re constantly snacking when you’re watching television, drop the fork and start making better use of your time. Keep a set of free weights by the couch and do some reps instead of eating!
- Or Get Away From The TV Entirely
If you can’t sit in front of the TV without munching, get away from it. A bag of chips can be devoured all too quickly when you’re fixated on your favorite show. So get up, get out and get active. Need to relax? Try reading a book or magazine, which will keep your mind active, rather than sitting in front of the TV.
- Brush Your Teeth
Foods just don’t taste right after brushing your teeth. Avoid late night snacking by brushing your teeth immediately after dinner.
- Buy More Healthy Snacks
Rewrite your grocery list and cross off those fatty treats! After you purge your home of the unnecessary sweets, replace them with healthy snacks like fresh fruit, dried fruit, carrots, celery, tomatoes, cereal bars, and high-fibre breakfast cereal.
- If You Fail, Don’t Give Up!
If you fail one time don’t beat yourself up over it. If you do that, chances are you won’t change your eating habits in the long run. Start over again..just like you don’t give up on your child who falls when you are teaching him/her to walk, to ride a bike…you say it’s okay..let’s do it again..!
