Chesapeake Woman Hits A Hole-In-One — Twice
A hole-in-one is a once-in-a-lifetime thrill, right? Not for Martha Williamson. She made holes-in-one on consecutive Thursdays. In two different states.
The 50-year-old mother of three boys aced the ninth hole at Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on April 23, slam-dunking an 8-iron from 123 yards away during a Tidewater Team Matches event.
“It tore the left lip of the cup on the way down,” said Williamson, who lives in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Thursday, she aced the fourth hole at Sea Scape in Kitty Hawk, N.C. This time, it was with a 7-iron from 125 yards and she had plenty of time to get excited about the shot. “It landed on the green and rolled about 15 or 20 feet before falling in,” she said. “It was my first shot of the day. I was playing in a shotgun start two-man captain’s choice tournament.”
The thrills have been somewhat pricey: Williamson partook in the ritual of buying drinks for everyone in the clubhouse, the plaque for a hole-in-one runs about $100 and the first hole-in-one sent her husband, Mark, scrambling to sign up for a golf academy.
Martha Williamson, an 18-handicapper who plays regularly at Greenbrier Country Club, already was occasionally beating her husband on the links. The first hole-in-one proved to be his final straw. “I called the Steve Dresser Golf Academy” in Pawleys Island, S.C., Mark Williamson said. “I was already thinking about doing it, but that put me over the edge.”
“He’s never had a hole-in-one,” Martha Williamson said. “The first one about killed him. He’s probably going to divorce me now that I’ve done it twice.”
He’s not going to those extremes, but he did have a request: “Do you think we can get both holes-in-one on the same plaque? It would save us some money. Those things are expensive.”
