Ryder Cup: Team USA or Team Europe?
As I am sure you are all are well aware by now. The 2010 Ryder Cup is only about a month away. The next one won’t be until 2012, which could be the last of the doomsday theorists have their way, even though this caveman is positive that it won’t happen. So far there have been 37 Ryder Cup matches, and I am sure there will be many more to come.
So Which will it Be this year? Team USA or the current cup holders, Team Europe?
Historically the American Team has the better average:
Team USA | Team Europe | |
Ryder Cup Matches Won | 25 | 10 |
Ties | 2 | 2 |
Most consecutive Wins | 7 (Twice ’35-’55 & ’71-’83) | 3 ( ’02-’06) |
Team Points (Over 37 Matches) | 476 | 368 |
Foursome Points (Over 37 Matches) | 135.5 | 105 |
Four Ball Points (Over 37 Matches) | 95.5 | 85.5 |
Singles Points (Over 37 Matches) | 244.5 | 177.5 |
Largest Margin of Victory | 23.5 to 8.5 | 18.5 to 9.5 |
But the seems to be changing. In the last 15 years the European Team has picked up the pace.
Team USA | Team Europe | |
Wins | 4 | 7 |
Tied | 1 | 1 |
Matches Won | 131 | 163 |
Points Won | 157.5 | 178.5 |
Foursome Points Won | 45 | 51 |
Four-ball points won | 38.5 | 57.5 |
Single Points won | 74 | 70 |
Combine Europe’s current trend with what the line-ups are looking like (minus the captains picks) I am thinkin’ I may have to bet on Team Europe.
What do you think Rock Heads? Either way this caveman is eager to catch the continental golfin’ battle!

I sure hope I am wrong, but I truely believe this will be the worst butt kicking by Europeans that has ever taken place in the Rider cup. I am 61 years old and have watched the Rider cup since I was a kid, this is my favorite event in all of sports. I brlieve no matter who Pavins four picks would have been, it will still be a old fashion butt kicking. I do agree that ole Monty should have went with Casey instead of Harrington, but the other three picks will help the Europeans.
