Congrats Bill Haas

The FedEx Cup Championship came down to a sudden-death playoff between Hunter Mahan and Bill Haas. The second hole Haas’ shot made it into the water, seemingly sinking him completely, while is nemesis faced a 25-footer for the birdie.

“It was all or nothing. I had to hit a decent shot. Definitely some luck was involved,” Haas said of his third shot

Bill’s third shot exploded out of the water and the ball fell within 2 feet of the hole, and he was able to save par, and force a third playoff hole because Hunter had to two putt his way into the cup.

The next hole was all Haas’ He sank a 4-foot putt landing him par and leaving Mahan in second place. Bill took home the FedEx Cup and checks totally $11.4 Million! ($1.44 for winning the championship and $10 Million for winning the playoffs)

Not bad for someone who started of as 25th in the playoff when the week began, and who had lost in two playoffs earlier this year. He became the worst seed ever to win. Mahan still walked away with $1.56 million and said:

“I thought I had won on the second playoff hole and then he hits it out of the water to 2 feet, so it seemed like he was destined to win this week,’ Mahan said. “I figured, boy, he’s in the water. If he hits it within 10 feet, it’s going to be a hell of a shot, and he hit it 2 feet, so you’ve got to tip your hat to him.”

Congrats Bill Haas! It was a superb showdown!
