Some New Stars On The Rise?

Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson entered a playoff this weekend to determine the winner of the New Orleans Classic. The pair entered the play off after having shot a 15 under par 273! Both golfers birdied the par five 18, on the first extra hole. But Bubba Watson pulled it together and sealed his victory with a four-foot putt to birdie the second go around after Simpson missed his attempt from 12 feet out.

This makes the 3rd win for Southpaw Bubba in less than a year! Congrats!

Also of note this weekend was Alexis Thompson, a 16 yr old from Coral Springs, Florida who turned pro last year at only 15. She was also the youngest player to every qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open at age 12. Unfortunately, Lexi didn’t win this weekend, but she did walk into the final round tied for the lead. And at just 16, even this caveman is impressed.

During that final round, however, she shot a 78 leaving her one under par and tied for 19th, allowing Maria Hjorth claim the title at the Avnet LPGA Classic. Thompson shouldn’t fret though, she was only 3 when Hjorth entered her rookie year on tour.

Congrats to Maria Hjorth, and good show Alexis Thompson! I am positive that she will do great things and can’t wait to see them!
