5 Ways to Get in Shape for Summer

Beach RunnerThe time to put on a bathin’ suit and head to the beach is comin’ up fast. If yer anything like this caveman (who may or may not have spent half an hour tryin’ to squeeze into a loincloth last week), there’s a good chance that you ain’t quite ready to show yer face – or yer stomach – at the oceanfront just yet. So let’s take a look at some quick tips and tricks for gettin’ yer body bathin’ suit ready quick!

      1) Try alternating exercise activities during the week

Sometimes the same activity day in and day out can get pretty boring. Fortunately, this caveman’s been around long enough to know that variety is the spice of life! Try alternatin’ your fitness regime and mixin’ things up with different activities.

      2) Get out in the sun

Unless ya take the extra effort, a lot of people don’t seen that much daylight. Between work and commutin’ and school, gettin’ out to see the sunshine doesn’t happen for a lot of folks. Try takin’ a morning jog outside instead of headin’ to the gym every once in a while. Not only are you gonna get the same fitness benefits as you would on a treadmill, but you’re also givin’ yerself the benefit of more Vitamin D! Help elevate yer mood, mental health, and give yerself a sun-kissed glow! Now that’s a beach-ready-bod!

      3) Take a timeout from takeout

This one’s a little bit hard (especially for this caveman). When you’re too busy to cook for yerself, a lot of people rely on the trusty Chinese food takeout menu for sustenance. The problem is, most takeout places ain’t exactly low-cal. Instead, brown bag your lunch at work and load up with things like apples, almonds, carrot sticks, etc. Try cookin’ more weeknight dinners at home too. You’d be amazed how easy it is to boil water for pasta.

      4) Do more cardio

Make a goal to work out at least 30 minutes a day. I know we’re all busy, but if you’ve got enough time to watch that rerun of The Simpsons, you’ve got enough time to take a jog around the block a few times.

      5) See you later, soda

Just stop drinking it. It’s not good for you, it doesn’t fill you up if you’re hungry, it’s pretty much pure sugar, and it stains your teeth just as bad as coffee does. Health-wise there’s literally nothing good about soda. That extra can of Coke you drink a day is around 200 calories. Switch to water and you can enjoy a veritable smorgasbord of other tasty treats! Just check out this list of delicious snacks that are all under 200 calories. Suddenly that soda just ain’t cuttin’ it.

With a little focus and determination there’s no reason why every Rockhead can’t take to the beach with confidence this summer, no matter how skimpy your loincloth. Got some suggestions of your own? Leave ’em in the comment section!
