Who Is The World’s Worst Pro Tennis Player?

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Wednesday the London Courts decided that Tennis Pro, Robert Dee, is in fact the World’s Worst Pro Tennis Player. Robert Dee

In 2008 Dee filed a libel action against the Daily Telegraph, for a headline that read Worlds Worst Tennis Pro Wins At Last. The pouty tennis pro explained that not only was it offensive, but it could hurt his chances at becoming a tennis coach.

Dee lost the case based on the courts decision based on the facts admitted:

  • Dee was a professional tennis player who lost 54 consecutive matches in tournaments on the international professional circuit without even winning a set!
  • This record of consecutive losses was the world record equaling worst ever run of consecutive losses on the international professional circuit.

So now, Robert Dee not only has a headline but a court ruling stating that he is The Worst Tennis Pro Tennis Player in the World.

This caveman thinks that Dee should have just been happy with the win!

What do you think Rockheads? And who is the World’s Worst Pro Golfer?

What’s Your Favorite Course?

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

I sat here thinking today, if I had to choose a favorite golf course, could I do it? It would be hard, but it would come down between two. The Oak Hill CC in Rochester, NY, and Point Sebago Resort in the little town of Casco, ME.

But Why those two? They aren’t necessarily the best designed courses, but they both hold a special place of nostalgia in this caveman’s heart. Oak Hill has over a century’s worth of history and may or may not have been where I started my dig for golf balls. Point Sebago is on the brilliant Sebago Lake in Maine, filled with fond childhood memories, and is also associated with Camp Sunshine which “provides respite, support, joy and hope to children with life-threatening illnesses and their immediate families through various stages of a child’s illness.” and holds a my sentiment as I know it does to a few of my Rockheads.

So What is your Favorite Course Rockheads?

~Scratch

Bonus: I haven’t played this course yet, but I am curious to see how the Coober Pedy in Australia, would hold up. With little to no grass, it would be like playing in an infinite sand trap. It has some excellent potential to be frustratingly fun!

Are You Up For Some More Extreme Golf?

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Are you a golfer, but also like to think of yourself as an extreme athlete? Well, Robin Seiger has put together a package just for you. The Awesome Eight Golf Challenge pits you against the 8 most extreme courses on the planet.

What could be more extreme than golfin’ amidst a field of land mines you ask? Well try some of these on for size.

The World’s Coldest Golf Course: Located in North Star, Alaska With temperatures consistently well below freezing, and an ever changing frozen landscape makes this course brutal.

The Hottest Golf Course: Alice Springs Golf Club, Australia, also known as one of the top 10 courses in the world, you can bet you will be sweating more than scoring!

The Highest Golf Course: Technically according to the books, Tuctu Peru is the highest, but unfortunately unplayable, so next on the list. La Paz Golf Club in Bolivia!

The Lowest: If you’ve got the highest, you have to go balance it out. Furnace Creek Golf Course in sunny California lays 214 ft below sea level!

Also on the list are the Most Northern, in North Cape, Norway; the Most Southern, in Ushuia Argentina,; The Toughest, Ko’olau in Hawaii; and of course the Oldest; St Andrews in Scotland!

So Rockheads, have you played any of these courses? Do you have any Extreme or Awesome Golf stories of your own? Think you’re up for the Awesome Eight Challenge?

~Scratch

Bonus: In This caveman’s opinion, there aren’t many golfers more extreme than Ken Green. After a year tragic events, and the loss of a limb, he returned to the Champion’s tour and showed that he still has what it takes! Congrats Ken! I wish you luck with your golfin’ future!

Is Ochoa’s Retirement Permanent?

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

An 11 year old Lorena Ochoa once approached Rafael Alarcon to help her achieve her goal of being the best golfin’ lady the world. 17 years later, after not only achieving but keeping that title for 3 years, she has announced her retirement from professional golf.

http://ocgolfcourse.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/lorena-ochoa.jpg

During those 3 years on top, Ochoa had 27 wins and was the best known non-soccer playing athlete in Mexico. She wasn’t just a great golfer, she was also a great person, setting up the Lorena Ochoa Foundation, a school for under privileged students in Guadalajara. She also made time to greet the course groundskeepers during her tournament stops. Her Legacy will continue even with out her golf career.

But why leave the game so young, especially when you are on top? This Caveman won’t throw speculations, because Ochoa will be discussing the matter further this Friday, but he will admit that this is a loss for the LPGA and the golfin’ world, and that he is sad to see her go!

What do you think Rockheads? Is this a permanent retirement or will Ochoa be back?

How Do You Feel About Furyk’s Victory?

Monday, April 19th, 2010

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hUIQbwbZNme24VQVHDUnu0KgMMEQD9F60G700
This weekend’s Verizon Heritage came down to the wire when Brian Davis sank an 18 foot putt on his final regulation hole to catch up with Jim Furyk, sending the 2 into a sudden death playoff.

As Davis took his approach shot on Harbour Town’s 18th hole, he moved a reed with his backswing. He noticed his error out of the corner of his eye, and quickly called himself on it. Upon review of the slow-motion playback the officials agreed giving him a 2 stroke penalty costing him the chance at his first tour victory.

How did Furyk feel about this win? Well, just as awkward as he felt during his victory at the 1997 Argentine Open against Eduardo “El Gato” Romero, when Romero signed an incorrect scorecard. Furyk was dumbstruck and asked Davis if he was sure, to which Davis replied, “I know I did, I couldn’t have lived with myself if I had not.”

This Caveman agrees with what one my Facebook Rockhead’s exclaimed:

“Golfers like Davis show the world what sportsmanship and class is all about.” – Chris Colburn

What do you think you think you would have done in either of their shoes?

A Win For Mickelson, A Win for Golf, and A Win for Callaway?

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Phil Mickelson’s triumph at Augusta has been hailed as not only a win for himself, but for the world of golf. While the gallery drowned in mixed emotions for Tiger, Mickelson only heard shouts of encouragement and delight, which sounded more like a roar when he sank his shot on the 13th hole.

Less known was the effect that this win had on Callaway. If you don’t already know what’s in Phil’s Bag, it’s all Callaway and an Odyssey White Hot XG putter.

Callaway had a great start to the year already after being named top dog on Golf Digest’s annual Hot List. And;

“Through 16 PGA Tour events and the year’s first Major tournament, Callaway Drivers, Irons, Putters and Golf Balls have amassed more victories than any other equipment manufacturer. To put Callaway’s recent dominance on the PGA Tour in perspective, consider that the Company’s new FT Tour Driver has now won six of the last nine PGA Tour events; Callaway Irons and Tour i Series Golf Balls have won five in that same span; and the Company’s Odyssey brand of Putters has claimed five of its eight 2010 victories since this hot streak began at the Mayakoba Classic. Impressively, this run of success has been earned by a staff of tour professionals that is considerably smaller in number than those competing for the other major equipment manufacturers.”

You can be sure some golf bags are going to be changing this year! So how does your golf bag measure up Rockheads?

~Scratch

Bonus: Mickelson still came out victorious despite this ruggedly unlucky putt!

Will Lee Westwood Win a Major?

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

While Phil was the center attention after he won The Masters, Lee Westwood stood by humbly watching as his hopes for a major were crushed once again. He led the tournament’s first 3 rounds before being overtaken by Mickelson. He couldn’t have been more graceful about his loss though, stating that, “He’s {Phil} been through hard times recently, and he deserves a break or two.”

handshake

It’s sportsmanship like that that makes this caveman want to root for the Englishman to finally win a master and live his dream! His next shot at a Major is the US OPEN on June 17th, which is also Tiger’s next guaranteed appearance.

Do you think Lee has what it takes to win a Major this year?
